Night 3 - Manhattan, Kansas

A change in landscape today.

We began the day with a bit of cold rain which thankfully didn't last too long. We ended the day glad that we had pushed beyond our planned camping spot as it seems storms were in store for that area this evening. We are now comfortably settled at daughter number one's home in Manhattan, Kansas.....the Little Apple.

Highlights of the day:

1) Eating smoked bologna at a casual dining restaurant---who knew you could actually order bologna from a handheld menu!?! This was at the Rib Crib in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

2) Seeing the actual very very small log cabin from Little house on the prairie. Somehow it seemed it would have been illegal for an elementary school librarian not to stop! This was near Independence, Kansas.

3) Cooling off during the heat of the afternoon at the VFW in Independence, Kansas.

4) Entering a nice cool restaurant a bit south of Topeka, Kansas to escape the heat and coming out to find a cool front had come through! Beto's Restaurant in the TA truck stop at the intersection of US Hwy 75 and I-35 has awesome chicken fried steak!

5) Arriving at daughter's house and being almost knocked over with hugs from the grandyoungins!

The picture above was taken while riding down I-70 between Topeka and Manhattan. The area is known as the Flint Hills. I've always considered it in beautiful. Nature is the best artist!

We plan to be here in Manhattan for a few days. Can't just hug and run at this stop!

  1. Okay, you can't get away with that. Describe ages and sex of "said" grands. Inquiring minds are following you.

Our middle child and her family were in Kansas for two years while he attended army school at Ft. Leavenworth. They just moved back to CO last year at this time.

    What's next?

I'm getting ready to hit the road tomorrow. Am going to try to access you from afar. LOL!!!

  3. I've never seen the house in Kansas, but I have seen the one in South Dakota. That was fun.
