June 14 - Flag Day - From Red Oak, Iowa

We left Manhattan, Kansas yesterday morning and road under cloudy skies most of the day. I was cold. Lester enjoyed. We meandered through northeastern Kansas and then through southeastern Nebraska ending the day in Red Oak, Iowa. Along the way we crossed the Pony Express route, the Oregon Trail, and the Lewis and Clark Trail. A few days ago we had also crossed the Sante Fe Trail. Today we continue through Iowa with no specific destination in plan for the day. The pictures:

Lester and Logan.

Lester and Shane.

I like old churches. This one was in Blaine, Kansas. Not much else was there.

Handicap parking along the Pony Express?

Another old church. Seneca, Kansas.

The public library in Seneca, Kansas.

Bear trying to escape tree in Bern, Kansas.

Amber waves of grain.

A long stretch of road in Nebraska.

A pretty picture. Nebraska.

An old barn. Nebraska.

Highway 75 is the road less traveled in Nebraska.

Iowa.

The Red Oak Elks Lodge in Red Oak, Iowa. Very friendly place! Met Brenda and David and had a great evening! (We also stopped at the Shenandoah Elks Lodge in Shenandoah, IA and tried to stop at the Nebraska City Elks Lodge in Nebraska City, Nebraska which apparently rents space at a golf course.)

  1. The first old church looks a lot like the church that Cory and I go to up here. We can't wait to see you next week and actually show you around town this time! :) p.s. it's finally getting warm up here...it got up to 72 today!
