I enjoyed today's ride. We got misplaced about 3 times! Misplaced is my way of saying we missed a turn or two and had to find our way back to somewhere. We began the morning saying goodbye to Lester's uncle in Alexandria, Virginia. We followed the planned route until we missed a turn in Charlottesville. That led to a decision to go see Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home. Unfortunately, they wanted twenty dollars each for the tour. We decided to go on with our trip instead. Then we got misplaced a second time and ended up on "Walton's Mountain". There we did get so see the original house that Earl Hamner, Jr. lived in and based his writings on. We left Walton Mountain by a route other than we had used to get there. Took awhile to unwind down the mountain but we finally made it back to the main road we had lost in Charlottesville. We decided to stop for the night in Lynchburg. We again got misplaced as we headed to Lynchburg Elks Lodge #321. Fortunately we found our way and got written directions to get back to the hotel.....who knew it was that close! Today's pictures for your viewing pleasure:
Somewhere beyond this hill is Monticello. Seems it is not even visible from the road!
We did get to see the house that Earl Hammer, Jr. grew up in and based his writings on!
The road disappears and well sometimes after several twists and turns a person loses their equilibrium....
The Lynchburg, Virginia skyline. Old Virginia towns and cities have a lot of character.
On the menu at the Texas Inn: Westerns - Hamburgers - Hot Dogs - Chili. What is a Western?
