Getting close to take-off day!!

Welcome and thank you for visiting our blog! We are very excited about the trip we are about to make. For those who haven't heard the details we are taking a 5000 plus mile trip through about 15 states. Leaving June 5th, the trip will take about 2 months as we visit family, friends, tourist traps, Elks lodges, and whatever else tickles our fancy. If you have a suggestion for a good place to visit or a good place to eat along our route please let us know! We will begin the trip in Richardson, TX when Lester picks Brenda up from work on the last day of school. That evening we will travel about 3 hours as we take the scenic route to Avery, TX. There we will spend a couple of days with Lester's brother Willie and his family before proceeding to Mena, AR. [The links take you to legs of our route on Google Maps. You may need to zoom out and manipulate the map to see the route.]

Preparation for our trip has taken place over several months as it grew from a dream trip to reality. I am a list-maker and Lester is a route planner. This past weekend we loaded the motorcycle to make sure we could take all that we wanted. We did have to make a few adjustments but it looks like we will have almost everything but the kitchen sink with us. We do have the pots and pans and bedding as we plan to camp as much as possible to keep costs down. Wonder if it is legal and/or ethical to solicit sponsorships for trip such as this!

Our general route will take us to stops in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, upper peninsula of Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Virgina, Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, and back to Texas. Again, if you have any suggested sites to see please let us know!

Hopefully, we will be able to blog on a daily basis. That will be determined by ability to connect. Also, there may be some days we are just too dog gone tired to write.....hey we're not spring chickens, that could happen!

Hope you enjoy our postings! We look forward to reading your comments!

  2. Can't wait to hear all about it! We're looking forward to seeing you next week. Maybe you should make a flat Brenda and Lester to take along. :) Your students would love that! So would we.

  3. I had the Flat Stanley conversation with someone at work. I declined. We do have a mascot of sorts. A stuffed bear we rescued from a parking lot about a week ago. We'll try to include him in pictures. He is as yet unnamed. Hey...he just got named---Keller, since we found him at Keller's a drive-in restaurant in Dallas.
